  • Good. Very good.

But if you want me to nitpick then here's a few things.

    1. His sockets burned with flames of vengeance.
-I think it would be better to stick in tangible things in description. Readers would have a hard time imagining flames of vengeance. If the character's eyes and mouth are burning then you just have to state they are burning. If he is charging because he wants vengeance, then you should separate that. If flames of vengeance is a skill or a spell then you must capitalize it.
    2. Bringing an end to many who blocked his way.
-Again, quite vague. If those people died then you must describe how they died. It brings readers closer to the scene. For example, 'Burning the three men who stood in his way. They screamed as they waddled their arms and then they fell, charred skins peeling from their flesh.' Or if you don't want to focus on their deaths, just say 'Burning the ____ men who stood in his way.'
    3. Billy pointed at the charging skeleton demon and alerted his captain.
-You should trust your readers. Billy pointing at the thing and saying what he said is already considered 'alerting his captain'. A better way of phrasing it would be, 'Billy pointed at the charging skeleton demon. "Captain, look" He said to his captain who was fighting several other skeleton demons.'
    4. The omniscient point of view is really distracting (at least for me. Personal preferences). Most novels nowadays are written in third person limited or first person. You should pick a single character to focus on, either Billy, the captain or the skeleton demon. If all three are important, then you should at least separate point of views by line breaks.

Well those are only my opinion. They might not be right.

    • But people come here for exactly that. It is even hinted in the book of authors. This might be a bad analogy but this platform is like a convenience store. People don't go to a convenience store for a fancy meal but for junk foods and red bulls (not exactly healthy but tastes good). In a similar way, this platform is for people who likes a quick read of op and perfect characters. Mary Sues are terrible for storytelling. We should have fewer of them but what can we do if the platform itself is designed like that?

      • One Punch man is a comedy and the main focus is Saitama's struggle for acceptance as a hero. We do not worry about him failing as he is, as the title suggests, the one punch man. It works because the focus in not on the fighting but the repercussions of being OP. Overlord is another OP MC novel that works. Ainz is OP but the story isn't just about him defeating enemies left and right. That would become boring soon enough. We are shown by the author the perspectives of the other characters. And we care about those characters and that keeps us reading. Neia is my personal favorite and her perspective kept me reading through the brutal Volume 13.

To summarize, having an OP MC is not enough. There must be something that would make the readers stick to the story. In OPM, I think it's the comedy. In Overlord it is the side charscters.

As for improving writing skills, there is a podcast called 'Writing Excuses'. It is a great resource in dialogues and description.

        • Petrichore I think it is sad and I get what you mean. This is webnovel after all where people seek wish fulfillment stories. I don't think this will change but I hope it does. I scroll through the novels and all I see are CEO novels with beautiful female MCs and cultivation stories for males. Writing is an art. Imagination should be unlimited. And yet we are stuck because authors are too afraid to venture into unpopular topics. The website's design also makes it worse. I get that this is a business but the admins should also promote great stories instead of just popular ones.

        • Anyone knows male MC romance? May not be fully romance since male MC novels are mostly focused on action. We men need romance too.

          And please no harem.

          • Throne of Magical Arcana. The raw is finished and the novel is good. The translation is almost dead with 2 chaps/week. If mass release is too much (Of course it is), then at least revive that hidden gem.

          • I'm excited for Human-Al romance contest. I hope there will be some serious stories that can make us think and ponder what it meant to be human. I have enjoyed psychological novels before and I'm tired of cliche romances that only give sweetness. I know many readers also want that.

I'll check this discussion regularly for hidden gems.

P,S, I admit that my story's romantic plot is not that serious at the moment and I'm contradicting what I'm saying right now. But I'm building my romantic plot to a more serious one. So don't judge haha

          • Hi Moiraine. Thank you for your offer and I hope you could edit mine. My mother tongue is not English so it's unavoidable for me to make mistakes. I read and check each of my chapters several times before posting them, but some grammatical errors and typos still find their way into my novel. I really need my novel to be perfect and I will do my best to make it so. I never though that writing could be this addicting. At first I was just killing time to soothe my withdrawal syndrome caused by slow updates of my favorite novels. But then I realized that writing is fun. Making something with your own hands, it's satisfying. That's why I'm doing my best to improve my novel.
            Again, thank you.

Also, I hope the genre doesn't deter you. It's designed for male readers but i'm making a power couple.

            • Greetings fans of Historical Romance. I am advertising my entry for this week's writing contest for historical romance. I actually started writing this novel about a month ago and I was just waiting for a writing contest that suites my novel's genre. I estimate this novel to be a long one with at least a few hundred chapters. Please check out my book.

My story is about a Prince and a Princess who were forced into a royal marriage. Together, they will face the challenges in a cruel and scheming world.
