  • Fast Pass.. Bad alternative & here’s why

Exactly! E
What's up with the new update?
No SS or coins. After doing all the activities and the weekly bonus I got 4 fast passes.
They unlock 1 chapter each.
Which is dumb because when i was getting 20 coins a day (which was a sudden downgrade from 35-40 SS a day), with the site wife discount I'm etting yi was able to unlock 5-10 chapters a day!
Thankfully I had some older coins left over!

These guys are just... pushing free readers off the app aren't they?

Alright, this will generate hate, but here goes. What webnovel did is actually genius marketing and strategy. You guys are mistaken by 1 very important thing. Webnovel is a business, business needs income. You reading for free, gives them nothing really. Sure they had those video ads (or still have, I don't know, don't use the app), but those ads must've generated very little income for them, hence they changed it.

So what they did instead? They made coins available to paid member only (pretty much, small exception here and there but in overall exclusivity). It's a bold move, but a move that brings them more income I suppose. You can still read for free (the contracted or paid novels), but at a slower rate. Therefore you get stuff for free, but you can't expect for them to give you everything for free. Let me put it like this. If you go to a bookstore, you can't expect the guy or gal behind the counter, to just give you books they sell. You have to pay for them.

So, the whole "Webnovel screw us over the SS" is basically pointless. They could take away everything, and you'd have shit to say. Because paid means paid. How they charge, is a different story. I can tell you right now that novels here are very expensive, the more chapters they have. A 1000 chapter novel, is about twice as expensive compared to the complete books (in equivalent size to the 1000 ch novel) bought on amazon for example. I even know the reason but I digress.

There is another point I will make. Read the free novels. There are novels that are free, and in many cases better than contracted novels. I'll give you an example. Chrysalis is a free novel, and it's not contracted. You can read everything the author wrote for free. The novel is also popular. There are good not contracted novels, because such authors prefer their creative and financial freedom, ability to go multiplatform or open their patreon (etc). Read those stories and support those authors, you don't need fast passes, coins or anything really. Or just stick with whatever contracted stuff you read, and do it at a slow pace. You can also pay ultimately. I solved it for you guys? Or any other doubts?

InfernoOfDea it looks like coins but the symbol is slightly different and CKtalon confirmed it in a post from a few days ago

Ppl would be willing to pay if there was an consistent affordable option that wouldn’t be changed. A monthly subscription would be nice. But all these weird tactics rub ppl the wrong way and make ppl unwilling to pay for a service that will disappear once Webnovel decides to try another method

Salvius98 Actually a fast pass fully unlocks a chapter permanently, It is only stating that if you haven’t use a fast pass after 7*24 days, it will expire for not using the fast pass.

NoNameJustFame Then don't pay? No one forces anyone here. Read for free, or read free novels. I don't see why there is an issue. Do you seriously think you guys are first? That this didn't happen before? Every time this happens, people rise a shitstorm and what? You gain nothing from it.

NoNameJustFame Ppl would be willing to pay if there was an consistent affordable option

You overestimate the capability of the "people". There were previous solutions, there were free SS and so on. There were top up options, without any privilege or other nonsense. Somehow people were not more willing to pay, because they decided to change those solutions. Everything was much more accessible for free, hence nothing motivated people to actually spend money. They basically changed that.

Will they change anything else? Not much in my opinion. The currency change is basically name change, and the icon that pops up. The currency is worth the same money. Coins will be exclusive, and fast passes might just simply vanish in the future. The fast passes might also stay for however long this service runs. I'm not an executive, and I don't have their numbers. They will make decisions based on the best profitability, at least that's how business works from what I gather.

Yes, Webnovel is a business. That's why they try to get the most for giving the least. When I was little, I played Poptropica online for free. And then they started restricting things that used to be free so that you had to pay for it. This app is doing the same thing, and you can't really blame them for trying to make more profit. I don't have the privilege of being able to pay for coins or whatever, so I'm a free reader, and although I'm not happy about the changes, I have no right to antagonize Webnovel for them. I've just gotta suck it up and sadly accept it.

The only thing about the changes that irks me is that they're so sudden, without warning (I rarely read the forum) that I'm confused and surprised when I open the app to see them for the first time. It's always a sad experience to see that they've taken away another source of free SS. But they have every right to do so.

The only legit complaint I have is that they provide these novels and expect people to pay for them when the quality is deplorable. If you're going to sell something, at least make sure it meets some kind of standard! I'm not talking about every novel, as I haven't read every novel, but take It's Not Easy to be a Man After Travelling to the Future, for example. After Henyee took over translating this novel, it's been almost painful to read the story I love, as it seems like they have no editor looking over the released chapters, or even a translator reading them over again. I even posted on the forum about this because it was so bad, and Henyee responded that they were using the same editor as the previous translator, which I was surprised about since the quality had always been pretty good and consistent in the past. I found this increasingly harder to believe as the quality of the translations continued to plummet. Later on, they announced that the editor had disappeared (notice deleted already) and asked for applicants but then never said anything again, and their level of quality persisted. I had applied, and they'd given me an unedited chapter to edit. Later, they never responded to me, and I saw the same chapter go up even worse than the way they had given it to me to edit. WTH? What's with this quality!? But anyway, I've digressed. Tl;dr: If they are taking away free sources of reading and expect to receive more profit, then I think they should at least watch the quality of the services they're selling. That's the end of my long rambling.

yaoyueyi nope. 10 EXP for each milestone. hoes mad bro they really think im going to read 960 minutes for 60 points

Salvius98 wait what? Son of a biscuit so I just wasted a couple passes then... I figured I would use them on some of the chapters that usually are about 13-15ss sorry 13-15 coins now and figured hey I'll use these and then when I catch up to these chapters it will all work out but wow nevermind. This app is burning itself to the ground and it's making me sad.

ScorpiaEvergreen And here we arrive at a very, very different argument. It's valid, for sure. The quality. I already told you guys the difference between publishing platforms such as Amazon and this website. On Amazon, you buy completed books or volumes for a reasonable price usually. Those who didn't make a name for themselves, will not sell at a higher price, and the more popular authors can increase their prices due to established name. Editing is big as well there. The better the book is, the better it will sell.

At webnovel? Doesn't exist. All works are treated the same way, because 200 (101 words is also treated as 200) words means 1 coin to unlock. There is no differentiation between works that are good, and that are worse. That is why this service is so expensive (that is one reason). Hence what you said about the translated quality, is basically the problem. Whether it's an original or translated novel, they have the same rate of charging for it. That is flawed.

No sane person would buy a book that has loads of errors in it, at a price of a fully edited book. Yet that is what webnovel does. People somehow don't see these flaws, instead they focus on "they took away some of the free things". Some authors might disagree with me, but that is only because they would earn less. The same rate for everyone is flawed as hell. This is why you are 100% correct. They should introduce 1 specific standard for the contracted novels. If a novel reaches that standard, it can be priced normally. If not, it would be priced differently, as in lower price because doesn't meet the standard.

That is a great solution, but... Ohh man, I mean they can implement that. Will they? Complain about it, spam the forum about this idea, and maybe if there is enough people. They will do something about it.

ampplaca also thinking of the same thing...with the rate of expenditure of my coins vs me getting them vs their expiration I'm afraid they wouldn't last for 3 months 😩😩😩

DarkRay Chrysalis is a free novel, and it's not contracted. You can read everything the author wrote for free. The novel is also popular.

            Second this opinion! 😁

Khana i payed the same, just that they're not giving ss since i upgraded my app, my daily rewards was only 1pass and 5 exp in which i don't need that much. spirit stone is much more convenient.

yaoyueyi you can't blame someone for reading something they love. we all have our own choices, we chose to read that novel because we love that type of genre. yes, there are many free novels but before suggesting that, did you even asks the reason why most people choose this app? Honestly, why i chose this app was because of a certain genre in which other applications doesn't have, those locked novels has a unique taste, the other novels may have been written correctly and was pretty good but it still lack something and the plot is too common in which you can easily find in other applications, the lines and the problems though the situation is different, unfortunately it still lack something that will make someone not let go. That's what i feel from the free novels that i have found so far.

yaoyueyi you don’t even get it for every checkpoint now, they give points which are useless instead of coins
