I went MIA for a month or two, only came back to reading again today. I noticed that afew novels I read like Gourmet Food Supplier, Pet King, Gourmet of Another World, Advent of the Archmage etc didn't 'update' at novelupdates.
A few minutes of investigation later, I found out that these novels had SS stones lock on chapters 100+ even if some are like 300+ to 500+ when I left. Can anyone please enlighten me, I may not be aware of something here :( much thanks in advance

Mot novels on my list have paywall (SS), I wont even ask if its just adwall since a few seconds wont make a difference :(
Is the paywall stuff a permanent thing? I wont be able to read a good 90% in my list here in QI if it is.

Yulric if a novel became completely translated, they had it completely free for 1 week then put a pay wall on every chapter after 100. I'm not sure if the free week will still happen in the future.
A couple weeks back, they stopped the premium for free program without any announcement. This has been verified by several translators. If you want proof, look at the translator thoughts in the final unlocked chapter of "it's not easy to be a man after traveling to the future"
I heard the guys in Qidian learned what they were doing here and got pissed. Writers complained bc free chpts isn’t how they do it there and so they paywalled it here like they do in China to make it consistent and make more money. While I understand Qidian forced them this is where I draw the line. I’ve mostly given this site up except for super gene and I’m getting bored with that too. Time to go back to real books. They’re better quality anyway
If a novel is saved in 1k libraries it goes Premium
We read web novel because it was cheaper than buying real books, but look at how things go now, buying real book by famed authors seems to be a better idea.
Sloppy_Daoist I just bought a Stephen King book for 8 bucks (4 American dollars actually) in a book shop. If a bestselling novelist's books sold for so little why should people pay this much money for chapters of webnovels who sometimes have a lot of translation issues?
Luta well, I can buy a novel from second hand bookshops in my country for as cheap as 2 USD. Imagine spending 10 USD for 500+100 bonus spirit stones just to read at most 60 chapters of a low quality novel. LOL
Luta Now imagine the real price of a web novel for Chinese reader. It should be around 15~20 dollar for 1.000 chapters (aka 10 books). Now you know why it is popular in China. It is cheaper for them.
