how much from that money does the translator even receive? everything or only a small part?

Positive_Lullaby 8 bucks for 1k SS each month should be enough for a reader to read their favourite novel, thus Brandy isn't peddling any lies nor is he being shameless. You're the more shameless one for attacking him just because he's a translator on this site
Seriph160 Clearly you show no care for the translators, editors, nor the author at all and are incredibly selfish. The previous system wasn't enough to support this site at all, yet you want it to go back to the way it was before because you want to read all of these chapters for free? smh
FreedomSeeker the translator most definitely receives a cut of the money... not all of it
OldManDuotian lmao no idea where you got 20-300 bucks from :D
Positive_Lullaby If it's only one novel you actually don't have to pay anything; daily check-ins are more than enough to let you read 2 chapters a day for free, and for an average length novel (10 SS per ch.) releasing 60 chapters a month it's about 600SS in total which you can buy for less than 8$. So it's just a few bucks a month. On the other hand, if you're talking about some nonsense such as 'following every premium novel is too costly', then it's just you having management problems. Usually, you don't go subscribing to the patreon of every novel you read, do you? You just choose the ones you like the most and wait for the others. You can do the same here, no one is forcing you follow every premium novel. If you think that it's not worth your money, don't read the premium chapters of that novel and wait for the free ones.
And I don't understand how I'm exactly shameless, I would be shameless if I were to advertise about Cultivation Chat Group every day. PS: I'm also offering extra chapters for Power Stones, vote us in the ranking to get more chapters!
I'm on the fence to some degree on this situation, but I have to disagree with some of the numbers being thrown around.
First of all, if you purchase all SS used to read a 600 chapter novel then it's about $70 assuming a cost of 12 SS to unlock each chapter and 100 SS purchased per dollar. Secondly, I only get an average of 14-17 free SS per day, this isn't enough to unlock 2 chapters per day so most people will be buying at least some SS to make up the difference. Considering the numbers of books available (and the uses for SS) I wouldn't be surprised if most people need to spend $5 a month on SS purchases (even minimizing usage).
I know Qidian and the authors need to make money and the translators need to be paid but the numbers seem a bit off. An average novel sells for $20 dollars in print and an average Qidian novel for a lot more than that. I know that some of the Qidian novels are big enough for several novels but it's also not incurring a printing and distribution fee.
Anyway, I only posted to point out that both arguments brought to light here are a little one sided. That said, the numbers still feel a little off.
Side note: Qidian's SS purchase system hasn't been working with my Paypal for the last week, no idea why since my first purchase worked fine and my Paypal works fine with all other sites and purchases. (I can't edit any posts that isn't my most recent post?)
GodBrandy Actually... i do patron all the novels that i read. I donate over $300 every month to translators alone, not including other patreons that i support outside of this community. The average chapter cost is around 14-15, for daily check in you get is 7-12 + 5 vote. Look at one of the premium webnovels, the MMO one. Most chapters go for 15-19. So you are effectively lying, because everything i have said now can be easily verified, and you have just been exposed as ignorant or worse...
Positive_Lullaby Then I'm not sure why you're even complaining about these chapters since they're cheaper than patreon shrug
Anyway, daily check-in is 7-13 and not 7-12; moreover, you get +5 SS from energy stones and +5 SS from power stones, so from a minimum of 17 to a maximum of 23 (average of 20). An average chapter is 3k Chinese words and around 2k words in English, therefore 10 SS. MMO's chapters are longer than average, not sure how I'm lying about it. For example, RTW is 7 SS and BNHH is 3-4 SS per chapter. I wanted to lie I could have brought BNHH as an example, saying that chapters are very cheap lol. You get more content and you pay more, it's only natural I guess? By the way, you're the one omitting stuff and feeding people wrong information to prove your point. Again, do your posts even have a point beside whining and accusing other people of lying?
Positive_Lullaby Give me a link to your favorite translator's patreon. I want to see how many chapter you can read if you pledge $50.
GodBrandy Well, ofc there is no problem right now, but i dread the future. I follow 22 novels, can't imagine every one of them turning premium. That would pretty much mean about $270 a month if the Bonus SS promotion ends in the following months. If the bonus ss promotion is fixed and i can maximize my bonus ss gain with $50 bulk purchase every time, that would still come to about $90 a month. It's a system that pushes me to read less novels. Now i'm afraid, maybe i shouldn't try new novels for the time being since it will be quite annoying if i have even more novels to pay for every month. Ofc you can say, 'just pay for your favorites and wait for the rest', but it's still quite annoying being forced to wait and watch premium chapters stack up. For example, Immortal Mortal free readers will be 214 chapters behind premium readers in 3 months. That's quite a lead they got there. And i'm never going to even try reading Immortal Mortal at this point. Don't wanna add another one to the list...
Ofc i don't know if or when all those 22 novels will become premium, but the future looks bleak for people who read alot of novels like me..
Most translators who use Patreon unlock some number of advance chapters, but after consuming the advance chapters, you are still stuck with the same daily release rate as non Patrons. QI does a bit better in that Premium chapters have a higher release rate than free chapters.
I think that the Premium novels are a fine idea, but the cost for reading one should be MUCH LESS THAN that of an industry standard e-book of the same length. The reason web novels should be cheaper is that the quality of translated work is typically less than that of traditionally published novels, and more importantly, with a complete novel you can read the whole thing rather than 2 chapters per day.
Hopefully QI will just introduce a site wide subscription service, similar to, but much cheaper than Kindle Unlimited. After all, the number of KU books greatly exceeds the number of translated novels available on webnovel.com.
No way to boycott. Majority of the active People on forum supports QI and the TL for QI are very protective.
You might as well go to other forums to voice it out
N0xiety I think you should tell him the problem of the SS Wall.
Does the TLers outside of QI put walls over their chapters? Do they say I give u 17 weekly chapters but now these chapters are paid chapters when they were free? Lol ( RTW )
They don’t and that’s what the problem.
WW TLers have a fixed amount released per week and the rest comes from donations or Patreon.
GodBrandy Not everyone is a "miser" you say. You know that is a extremely rude and stupid thing to say. You don't know the lives of no one on the website and that gives you no right to comment on how other people spend their money. That just proves you are an extremely cocky and stupid bastard to think that everyone should have money to spend on novels. Not everyone is paid just to translate (subpar) novels and bash the community and your costumers in a forum . So if you going to say something, think before you say something as stupid and idiotic as that.
Just live with it man, back in the days when I was following Rtw on Volarie, the release rate was much worse. If you want better release speed and translation quality for the novels, people need to be working full time on the project.
Though as with all the freemium business model, only less than 10% of the customers will form the paying base. For the remaining people, it would be good if a watch with ads option can be made available.
Of coz, I think Webnovel did a poor job in managing the experience of readers during the launch of the premium model. If you look at most freemium business out there, transition between premium and freemium should be clearly communicated.
Lomacris QI pays him. So why should he be happy if people don’t want to support QI?
XD
Don’t talk to the TLers of this place... they are too biased
immortal_corrupt They are biased and some of them didn't receive any education at all
Boycott my butt, If anyone still continue discussion in this topic, then you must be kicked by a donkey in the head, if you want to sponsor ,the sponsor ,if you dont want to no one will force you, besides when you get your meal free of charge you have no right to cmplain about extra salt, nothing is free in this wolrd, so to the noisy ones : ''shut up will 'ya ''
Oh btw this is a me another freeloader complaining about the noise., the walls are thin.
immortal_corrupt Do they say I give u 17 weekly chapters but now these chapters are paid chapters when they were free? Lol ( RTW )
In case of RTW:
You still get 7 free chapter, but yes people with premium will be way ahead in the story than you if you don't pay up.
In contrast to the old translator it's still better. He/She only translated 4 chapter per week and sometimes didn't release any "normal" chapters on that week because of time issues, but still was able to release donation chapter (sounds BS for me atleast, but no one had any problems).
immortal_corrupt Does the TLers outside of QI put walls over their chapters?
I would say yes. Patreon chapters and premium chapter are the same in my opinion, with the difference that people don't get the difference in chapter count smacked in their face.
