  • Why do I have so many collections and only so few views?

Hello everyone my novel is called Ultimate Hero: Bubble Master. I just started this novel as an entry for the spirity award and I am wondering about some things. I don't know if I have to advertise my novel somehow because of my stats...

My Stats

I have currently 38 collections and 1,906 views.
6 chapters are currently released.
circa 3 every week.
in total 15 powerstones from people other than me. 12 different persons!
My first chapter was released 21. April 2020... (13 days ago)

wordcount total 10.530 | average words per chapter 1.705

I guess those stats are not bad (?) i can't really compare it to anything...
But why do I have only 1.900 views. When I look at other novel for example
The Roleplayer then I see that he has in the official powerranking this month 32 collections but in comparison to me he has 27.700 views... (he has 10 chapters released)
I know that he posted something on the gamer reddit website that is how I found him but I can't understand why the difference is so drastic...
I think I am not ranked because I don't have more than 15k words released.. that is why I can't officially compare right now... Can that be a reason as well why I have so few readers? Will the number rise faster after I hit the 15k word mark??
I would be thankful for some ideas on the matter....

If you compare it directly than I have
1 collection per 50 views and he has 1 collection per 865 views...
I don't even know if I should be happy about the good ratio or depressed because of the low number of views T.T

lol why are some paragraphs written so big ?!? wasn't my intention

SuperSilentSin The reigning theory is a bot attack that was recently perpetrated on new stories. They commented, voted with power stones, and presumably even collected stories.

Haven't read it yet, but my inclination is this:

        1) 6 Chapters isn't a lot. Many authors drop novels, and no one likes reading a novel only to find it get's dropped, so most people have a minimium number of chapters that need to be out before they will give it a try. However, they will add it to their collection. At that level, I wouldn't be worried about views/collections. I'd focus on getting more chapters out. My personal min is typically around 15-50 or so chapters, depending on how interesting the synopsis is. That, combined with consistency gives me an idea that the author is serious and won't drop the novel shortly after I start reading it. Of course, it's not ensured, novels can be dropped after 100s of chapters, but at least I'll get more enjoyment out of it if it's more chapters.
        2) Those who do try it will do so based on previous reviews and the Synopsis. Your synopsis could be improved as It's rather short and vague. I'm not really sure what the story is about (or rather where it's going). Translated novels can get away with the kind of synopsis you have, as they have 100s of chapters of momentum and enough popularity behind them to get translated. However, that's harder to pull off for original novels.

Your synopsis could probably be improved, but I can't say in what way. It's enough I added to library, but not enough I'm inclined to read it, especially with so few chapters. I'm in that boat. I've added it, but I probably won't read it until it's at least 30 chapters and has good reviews. Probably half my collection is novels that I thought I might read, but haven't gotten to.
        3) Release rate. Readers like to see a consistent release rate. Daily is probably best, but even weekly is fine as long as it's generally consistent. On this, you seem to be solid so far. A chapter every 1-2 days it seems, which is pretty good.

So my recommendation is to just keep putting out chapters and perhaps consider updating your synopsis.

38 collections isn't much at all.

6 chapters is nothing, that's the size of average prologue introducing to the story, rather than the story in itself.

10k words means you are unable to even hit the new ranking (you need at least 15k words published to be listed there) which is the only and most important venue for new authors to promote their novel and gain exposure.... So your votes doesn't matter at all now. Also: People can vote up to 3 times a day from a single account, so keep that in mind.

Honestly speaking, 38 collections at such a early stage is rather good, but when I see the update rate... Eh, I know that not everyone is as hardworking as me, but let me in on a tip - all the nicely earning authors publish AT LEAST daily, with quite a bit of them writing more than a single novel at once. 3 chapters a week is nothing. Thats how much people write daily. Here is your reason why other novels might be more popular.

tigre900 okay that would explain why the comments suddenly stopped. even though my collections are still growing... the last chapter got me 12 new ones and let me reach 50 ....

ThousandStarlights thx that helped me a lot. I mostly read translated novels and only a few popular originals that is why I never thought about it this way... I will rewrite the synopsis. It was much longer in the beginning but then I noticed that my novel somehow drifted away from the synopsis because I only have a broad outline for this novel... So i wrote a shorter one as a placeholder until I come up with something good ...

MotivatedSloth yeah I know that it is not much ouput. But don't forget pls that I am not contracted yet. I guess if I was, I could most likely produce 10 - 14 chapters per week...

SuperSilentSin same comments stopped and collections continued. No way to know if any real people are reading the story unless you can talk to them and they reply.

AI380 yeah.. unlike wattpad, we can't see who put our book inside their library. I don't see anything wrong with that. It can help to avoid confusion with bot too if we know who keep our book in their library.

MotivatedSloth indeed. While once a week can be enough to maintain a reading base, it's not enough to get a contract. I believe it requires 1500 words a day or something. Definitely want to be showing WN that you can meet the terms of the contract before they will be willing to offer you one.

ThousandStarlights i wonder the words count is for english writer or Chinese writer. You see.. i checked about this before, but, word count for chinese is different than english. If chinese is 1500 words, english is only around , 800 and more words like that.

                      Correct me if i'm wrong.

Carciphones_02 You are almost certainly right, but not sure the ratio there. In any case, aim for what the typical contract requirements are as a minimum.

ThousandStarlights Used to write 2-3 chapters a week, still got a contract. It's not just update speed/word count per day that WN cares about. Furthermore, the contract doesn't require 1.5k words a day-- only if you are aiming for Minimum Guarantee System (MGS) will you have to do so, and MGS only lasts for four months. No one is forced to publish that many words a day in the contract.

AI380 excuse there are probably quite a few people i can ask this but I clicked on your name and here i am.... I am currently writing my first novel or maybe light novel would be more accurate. So how would I upload it to web novel
