Aren't we all familiar with the term "Oppa" now? Wish translators would use it instead of "brother or big brother" it just sounds weird and wrong.
Oppa vs Brother.
Citlalicue cant really say oppa would sound better. This is a chinese novel, not korean. Would sound cringey for me if they change it to oppa
Citlalicue Lmao if there was a non Korean novel saying oppa I would drop that shit real fast.
TargetPractice1 i agree, oppa would sound better on korean novels. But it would mainly depend on the translator i think if they would use oppa or brother.
Wtf? I would agree if the novel is a korean one, but if it isn't, don't use it for god's sake. Don't plague the chinese novel(s) with these cringy as fuck bullshit, and No! It doesn't sound weird to use big brother or brother in a chinese novel. I would be bothered and angry if some asshole translating a chinese novel use 'Oppa'. I'll flame that person's asshole really well if he uses cringy bullshit that doesn't have any connection whatsoever with the novel.
Oppa
Oppa is popular in all Asia now. And I think is still better then brother when a girl is flirting with the guy. Brother sound like incest to me.
Sdir No no no... I'm talking about a girl flirting with a guy. Calling it brother sounds wrong. Oppa is popular in Asia by now. It's got to be a better word than brother.
Citlalicue If its so popular why don't the authors have them in their novels?
Citlalicue only popular due to “KOREAN” pop idols, dramas, etc. But this is not a “KOREAN” novel. Even japanese novels dont use oppa coz its not appropriate.
TargetPractice1 Talking about translation not the original novel. There's gotta be a another word our there. Even "honey, sweetie, sugar or sweetheart" other than brother
RectangularCircle True, but is very well know thru Asia now. Would you call a girl sister to pick her up?
Citlalicue depends, maybe the girl that im trying to pick up have some weird fetish.
But on the other note, lets say you are non korean and saying that word “oppa” to pick up a boy. Imagine how cringey you can be. Really weird to hear that coz oppa is mostly used as a endearment for young people or used literally for older types.
I can see that. So, there's no other word? Does it reeeeally translates to "brother"?
Citlalicue ye it is. because thats their culture. if you talk about korean novel then yes of course they will use oppa or hyung
dlwlrma Oh well, I gotta get used to it I guess. Thanks!!
Citlalicue by the way, what novel you read that you want to change brother to oppa?
Citlalicue well since theres no other term chinese have for brother . Maybe you can just change it to oppa when reeading. Inspect element but if ur using mobile. Goodluck!
OPPA Korean novel
