Losing a raindrop won't make the bucket less full than it already is.
Don't you guys think that if we could get just get a monthly subscription to the premium chapters it would be beneficial for both sides say like 10$ a month times I'll just throw a random number out their 500,000 (<----us in case their is someon that don't get it)that would be a solid 5mil that way the company and the people would both be in seventh heaven because if you really think about it I can't imagine that 500,000 people all would pay even a 1$ for the 50 ss let alone the 50$ for the 3250 ss because lets be honest here if you are really reading there is no way that the free chapters are going to cut it and buying ss is just a money pit. So in conclusion People that actually want to read and have that little bit of spare cash can read their favorite books to their hearts content. While the whiny little cheap-scapes for whatever reason can't afford it can make a river with there cheap a$# tears and jump in it to go to the other side and meet Yama anyone in agreement?
Curse_Hand_Sr Here is the most likely reason why they won't use a subscription service for this website.
It simply wouldn't work with these types of novels. The main point is these are translated novels you have to wait for each chapter to be translated, why should I pay let's say $10 a month to read chapters when I can wait until the novels I want to read on here are done and then read them all at once. I don't know about everyone else but I can read about 100 to 250 chapters in a day and that is while taking 19 credit hours in college. That is 3,000 to 7,500 chapters in a month. Now, will I read that many chapters in a month, no of course not, but the possibility is still there. But I took speed reading classes when I was in high school so I have an unfair advantage. The reason why Kindle Unlimited subscription service works is that you are paying like $10 for 100,000s of books. No matter how fast I read I am never going to finish reading all of them in a month or probably in my lifetime. And if they did start a subscription system here you would have to be pretty dumb to spend money on it because most of the good novels on here are nowhere near finished and some of them will take years to be finished.
Let's keep the $10 example going, if you followed the subscription system you would spend $120 a year. While I can sit back and relax and wait a year or two and when I notice everything I want to read is completed I can spend at most 4 months to read everything I want off of here. That would cost me $40 and you $120 because you followed the subscription system from the beginning and read the books in little pieces at a time.
And another thing, almost all these books are the same type of story repeated over and over again by different people. There is a serious lack of originality between the different author's works. I mean for god's sake a lot of these novels have been repeating the same arcs over and over again and just writing it in a different way.
I have like 20 novels that I used to follow now I barely even follow three of them and sometimes I check up on another 2 but other than that the other novels are kind of boring because it is the same shit over and over again.
Two of the novels I follow are premium and one of them I am on the current premium chapter. Not once have I ever been out of spirit stones because of it. All you have to do is wait for a while. I can save up over 200 spirit stones in two weeks and then splurge on 10 to 20 chapters of a premium book every two weeks. So if you are spending money on spirit stones you are either trying to read too many books at one time, are not patient enough, or most likely have some type of obsession where you have to read the next new chapter whenever it comes out. That or it is possible you have a really bad reading addiction that you need to go to the doctor for to get help.
Detro "Keeping track of each individual accounts paid chapters then adding free chapters is a lot of information to store. "
In this case it wouldn't be since they're already doing a lot more than that. They must already store info on what chapters are locked what chapters you've unlocked since when you log off and back on, the chapter you just paid to unlock is not suddenly locked again. The simplest solution from there would be to unlock the earliest locked chapter as unlocking from where you last read has too many changing variables.
It's their business in the end but I'm not sure their current strategy is optmized for the highest revenue possible.
Most readers here are destitute students but I'm sure they could scrape together $5 a week for their daily crack.
Pretty sure you're only getting a couple hundred users actually paying for these SS.
Most just save up the free stones.
Little_White Get your friends addicted. -Quidian (in friend invite)
And the name premium is so wicked. Basically it means now you have to pay for the exact thing that used to be free. Why not call them paid novels and paying readers
YueZise Go to redd it and ...
vioddragon and read the premium for free ? Already ahead of you bro.
keep it up
I basically dropped everything that went premium cause I canโt afford 8,000 Spriit Stones just to read one novel to the end.
You can't afford FREE ??? Really??? They still give out free chapters. (ie for now but that is a different topic :P)
Detro they just have to store a single counter that can bw made on a single line of code that counts how many chapters you unlocked. After that they just have to put a variable when you load the novel that counts global free chapter plus how many you unlocked and the result would be your laat free chapters and from thrn on it would be locked
i.e. you unlocked 100 chapters when the last free chapter was 146 so you are now in chapter 246 you dont read rhar novel for 11 days so when you are back global free chapter is 157. so 157 plus 100 chapter on your counter you can read for free till 257 how hard it is? how much info there is to it?
Just do what I do, drop the non free stories and stop reading new ones here on Qidian. Kind of like slowly weaning yourself off an addiction. I can afford to buy the content but I don't think the content is worth it with the they are charging. At one point I will stop coming here altogether (down 4 novels atm) and that will be that. The only thing that speaks to companies is voting with your $$$ and your choices, if they see a big enough drop in traffic and $$$ they will change their ways.
I hate the current way of nickling and diming so I will not support that monetarily.
Smailig so much work....
Wow this a long tread..... I mean it's not like im addicted because i only read in my spare time so im kind of neutral. Translating is their jobs so i guess they do need money. Premium gave me a chance to try the novels that are not premium. Well what i do is just read on gravity tales or WW or other translation sites And just pause and save up chapter and SS then i just binge read what chapter i have saved up. You do saved up a decent stock if you have a bunch of book in the library that you like "/
Please don't hate or roast me or this comment..... because if you do Just wow..... Wow xD
all i can say is, yep, we're fucked. no point on saying this is unfair or anything, this is bussines and the freebies are out. so all i can say it's bad luck. and i can't even buy power stones or any other shit, they don't have choices for my country, that's a pretty bad bussines model.
Heyun explain that again in english please, i didn't get the math.
ShouldBeStudying
Stop reading novel! You Should Be Studying!!
Thanks god you don't know how much money I spend on Japanese manga. (99% hent*i tho)
NotADingo they do unlock but if u pay stone and u r ahead of most people (us poor people) then u have to wait until it gets to the chapter u stop and then after u get 1 free chapter per day im very patient hahaha and um doing that with the most expensive books and using whatever i have of stone with the books that dont charge that many stones
Venerable_spam that she said that is too much info to store for qidian to to give a free chapter per day from where you are in the novel and that's why they have to make it so the free chapter is global and not per person.
To that I replied that is not actually too much data because they only have to count how many chapters you unlocked on a novel and thrn take the global free chapter and sum up how many chapters you has unlocked to keep track of everybody individual free chapter with only adding a single variable. Not rocket science.
as for the example i can simplify the numbers but not much more to being easier to understand.
Here I will try:
So all novels unlock a chapter a day.
You can unlock more with SS but then you have to wait for free chapters to catch up before having more since free chapters are global.
To keep track individually instead of global without too much data as she said in the comment I quoted I solved the problem adding a sinple counter in the code that keep tracks of how many chapters you unlock with SS. So if you unlock three chapters you are three chapters ahead of the global free.
So there us no need keep a registry of every single user reading a novel to give then a free chapter from where they are locked but to simply keep the count of how many chapters you unlocked as for if you unlocked three chapters and the current global free is chapter 10 then if free chapter was individually tracked you would have been in chapter 13 that is 10 of global free plus three you unlocked so keeping individual track wouldn't be difficult as she has said and QI knows it since is like programming 101..
Why can't they just take spirit stones off and make so we need pay let's say 10$ or 20$ so we are member i'm not putting any cash those spirit stones i don't even wanna know how much it cost me so i can read those 50 chap Library of Heaven's Path if they not gonna start fixing this soon i think lot ppl gonna just change site.
ShouldBeStudying Go work for your own money, and stop being a hand money down to me kid.

YueZise This is what the English speaking community was worried about with the intervention of QI. They don't realize that Chinese and English speakers are fundamentally different. From what I've seen, in China, every page put out is usually paid for, or gotten via subscription. This 'non-paywall' Paywall, is going to murder the popularity of all of this in its infancy. I was stupid, and used my surplus of SS, to unlock a bunch of chapters in Library of Heavens Path, now, i can see 40 releases, but not a single one that i am able to read, because i paid in over a thousand SS, so now i have to wait more then two weeks (so far) to get a single chapter to read.
Morinu You clearly dont follow many novels and are not up to date on them then. I follow around 12 novels that are premium or ad-walled and I can basically spend $50 a month just to keep up with new releases. Also, the word count/chapter length is significantly smaller than you see in a typical book.
1 account get 17+ SS/Day
If you have 12 novel premium just create 12 account. Why pay 50$???
CKtalon really? If I remember correct every chapter for the kings avatar that has came out for the last 2 weeks I've paid for with spirit stones, I don't recall getting a free chapter a day this way. you get a free chapter if you have not used spiritstones at all. If you have, they just pile up the amount of chapters you need to purchase.
NotADingo I believe they are releasing chapters faster to encourage spending. Which means those chapters the translators are sitting on that have been translated get released enmass rather than at the prescribed rate as advertised. I've monitored premiums that released more than twenty chapters after they went premium almost the day after.
GeneticDisaster Exactly to the point. If these chapters contained a significant amount of content then the pay wall wouldn't be so bad, however many of these stories are shorter thus decreasing the overall value of the expenditure. I'm sure that many of the authors began writing in their spare time thus keeping their word counts short. However continuing to expect a higher wage for less content is nothing but ridiculous. If I worked part-time I would not expect to get paid full time wages.
ShouldBeStudying tu forma de pensar solo creara la espiral desendente de donde no hay vuelta atras .ya a pasado y volvera a pasar los seres humanos son codiciosos esta en su naturaleza pero tambien esta en su naturaleza auto destruirse.
Heyunwell yeah you're right, but i do no not ask for daily free chapter. even i don't have that much free time since i'm in collgue and i'm pretty sure most people need to earn money so, i asking only why there's no a weekly chapter kinda thing?
Tormented again, money it's not the problem, i can probably take enoegh money to read 10 to 15 chaps weekly by giving up smoking but in my country there no easy to use option to pay the damn thing not wihtout a credit card, and i don't have credit cards. i can buy steam games because they put a new option for my country last year and made it a lot easier, but i do not have that option here, i like this site but i can't be part of this if i can't quite pay what they ask for. see my problem? i wonder if they can make pay receipt kind of option? like Efecty or the like.
kaiser1979 you are too pessimistic. Slow progress is made actually, not because of an improvement in human nature but an improvement in technology. Like internet for almost free etc
Chr100 you respond with that kind of shit, pretty clearly demonstrating you are the one who needs to grow up...
Detro as someone who has worked in data handling, it isn't something complicated, even in the scenario set up here. logic goes as such:
On chapter release:
if (user_progress > free_progress) then (when free_chapter +1, do user_chapter +1)
its probably just removing a flag they already have present and remove when you pay.
