Honestly, this novel was in my pending list before this. But now that I've read about all the shenanigans the translator has been up to, I've decided to drop it and express my extreme confusion as a fellow translator (of another novel not on qidian) If you want to censor it/find it offensive, why the hell did you read it/pick this up in the first place? its like finding something repulsive but still using it because, what? I honestly can't comprehend? Cutting out bits of text because you cant bring the meaning across and rephrasing it, no issues. Cutting out bits of text because it's irrelevant and you can't translate it. I can tolerate. Cutting out half of the fucking chapter just because? wtf? you're undermining the author's efforts and it's really reaaaaaally rude. TY to N0xiety for creating this thread and telling people about it

2) AKA The novel was already censored upon release or you wouldn't see it
which brings us to 3) where the translator censored it after it has already been censored, which is super redundant and pointless so it leads to 4) on how the translator is either pointlessly cautious, super racist or any other reason mentioned above that's not listed.

@CKtalon maybe not as CEO, but Community Manager, since we see this TL way more here than any webnovel staff 
But back to topic. This is really disturbing. I don't mind TL replacing names, but then pls be consistent and do it for every name not just the names that don't fit you. Using UA but still naming the currency USD has nothing to do with consistency. Either do it properly or let it be!
But even more disturbing are the missing parts. Just like @N0xiety wrote earlier - the readers don't know that something is missing or changed and if those missing/changed parts create plot holes, the readers will create their own explanation to fill that gap. That's a manipulation of the author's story which could affect the overall comprehension of it and is therefore in no way acceptable.
Yuria576 yeah, maybe it was me who "too sensitive" for being offended by some brats who speak very rudely. which i thought it was very obvious that someone would feel offended by foul language, especially after i reminded them that they were talking to an elder. even if you're talking too your peers, its still not good too speak rudely much less to elderlies.

at first, i was only stating my opinion. so there'll be always ifs. and its very likely that the translator got permission from author. no matter how many censored they put in the novel, its their right to made some changes to the story. and noxiety mentioned in his op that "the translators think its too offensive to others" (i don't read the novel, my opinion is built from noxeity's op).

as an elderly, i feel some responsibility to remind youngsters i met (even in the internet) if they do something bad (especially to me). after that, its not my business whether they'd listen to my reminding or not, and i don't bother to manage them again if they choose not to. they're not my kids anyway.

i still remember about a novel i used to read where the translator censured it... it was a novel with a lot of graphic descriptions about kills and that censorship destroyed the novel for me. always wanted to ask that translator wth was he translating a novel of that kind if he was going to do that

This is where you have gone wrong, why are you even here? Don't try to blindly give your opinion on a subject you have no idea about. You don't even know if what i'm saying is true, nor do you know if the translator has permission from the author. You pretty much have no idea about anything, yet you want to give your opinion on a subject that you have no idea about? Translator didn't even bother to come here to clarify the situation. He seems to be just hiding away as you can see.
If you are as old as you claim, you should also have enough wisdom to know you shouldn't blindly butt into subjects that you have no idea about nor should you take information others given to you at face value. Did you even bother to go check the novel to see if what i have talked about is true or not and how it all effects the novel? You didn't... Then i ask you again, why are you here to comment on a subject you clearly don't care that much about? Are you that bored? If you actually cared, you would have done some research or checked the chapters that i have talked about...

My entire argument was built upon THE fact, and only THE fact, that instead of just ignoring an emotionally invested N0xiety OBVIOUSLY invested reply, you try and justify yourself past this. IF you just ignored her it would have been just a case of ignorance, but now that your going so far of topic about the one problem: The author is cutting and censoring so much (so much we might not even notice some parts) that pertain to lore and PAST EVENTS. If the author agrees upon it, Kudos to him, BUT he is doing it not with the authors permission (as far as im aware) to avoid controversy about THE PAST. Its not a case of Permission, Its him removing and changing a bunch of someone elses art. (I consider Novels a form of art)
If I went to an art gallery with whiteout, I would probably walk out in handcuffs.

AreYouTheEye while I do agree with you that the world and the internet would be a better place of people were less rude, I don't think that censoring history in any way is good for anyone. In this case, the context of the censoring matters a lot more.
History has a tendency of repeating itself. The more we know about it, the more we can do to keep ourselves from falling into the pitfalls of our ancestors while being able to repeat their successes.
This translator is cutting large portions of the original work, many of which are references to historical events. As alluded to by cktalon, the translator was spoken to regarding these omissions, implying they did not have permission to alter the novel as they had been.
I feel that not understanding the background of the dissatisfaction has led you to arguing for a different cause than you intended and now, backed into a corner, you can only rely on personal grievances to argue this new cause.
Respected elder, please have the maturity to be the bigger person and avoid trying to correct rudeness on the internet. If you have more to debate about the particular censorship done by this translator or similar censorships of history, culture, or politics, then I would love to discuss that.
Otonashi_Yuzuru I have a feeling some people translate to censor because if someone else translated it, it would not be censored. Thus acting first allows them to keep the works censored almost indefinitely. See 4kids for examples of translations that many consumers will never see the uncensored versions of.

KoraL Yeah, i also should have handled it better, but i really am out of sh*ts to give these days when people try to argue against such sound logic. I really don't feel like bothering to argue over such a topic that should be common sense, since i have noticed that when you try to argue with sjw using sound logic and common sense, you lose... They either derail the topic, go in circles, or spout nonesense to drag the argument to abyss. You know what i mean right? So i choose to just not bother too much about it and just shut off the argument from start. Some people just want world to be all flowers and a happy place for everyone, but sadly reality doesn't work that way. Wish it would, but yeah...

Altering content to not offend some people is just out of logic, since by doing so, you get to offend others who wants to read the novel as it was written. So the better solution is for people who get offended by what's written inside the novel to just stop reading since it was obviously not intended for them to read to start with...
i have finally ended my closed door cultivation. i come out of my cave with beautiful door, to try and get a signal. i connected to the internet, opened up webnovel forum check this topic. i found out the situation is the same as always. i will drop this novel.
Qidian is not doing anything except inform the shitty translator about it. honestly if they do care about user, they would listen to feedback and improve the situation. in this case, find a new translator for it, which is not a problem, it is qidians novel being translated by qidian. qidian is a company but boy do they just ignore their customer?

KoraL actually i was just stating my opinion then people replied me with rude attitude. after my first comment, i don't debate about the censorship anymore.
in my comment you're replying to (and other comments), i was just explaining my point in my first comment and then asked whether it is something offensive and deserve me to be cursed and insulted (so, the point of that comment is not the censorship).
i was expressing my displeasure to the rude behaviors. and no, i'm not relying on personal grievance to argue. my personal grievance (if any), already vented it in my 2nd comment. that curses and insults is what i'm argued about on the later comments (well, not really. just want to remind them about they rude behavior, not that anyone listen.)
i don't see CKtalon statement about translators did it without permission anywhere before i stated my first "ifs" comment (at that time we didn't know whether the translators got permission from the author or not, so i assume they got it bc its not hard for them to get it and i thought ppl who want to make a living as translator won't have a heart or guts to screw author's works). and everyone should easily know what the impact of CKtalon's statement to my first comment. there is nothing to argue about.

I made a suggestion for Titan beneath the Heavens.I said you can change the name of terrorist "Muhammed".Everyone knows the reason I think I will not explain and they answered like this:"Hi there, we did not intentionally picked this name and only translated the author's work. We cannot modify the content in any way. I hope you understand." and ı said it is okay and deleted that novel from my library.I think translator must not change or censor the story. if someone, doesn't like a novel or get offended somehow they can just delete like me.
Frk_ozbk I don't know the reason why you would want to censor Muhammed, unless it was translated wrongly from the authors book. But all translations should be on par with the authors original writing as it is his own work and should not be changed by translators. It is a disgrace to the original work and the author.

N0xiety I agree that removing parts of the novel is unacceptable for translators to do (although I still don't think it really effected the story), censoring the names doesn't really matter imo. It seems well established that his world is our world, and I was never confused with any of the story, except things like Country F. I have no idea what he is referring to, especially since coro island is not real. Apart from that, censoring CIA or FBI doesn't really matter, it's obvious what he's referring to.
